This feature is part of an ongoing series where we highlight trusted members of our networks from the Ireland Travel Planning Tips Facebook Group. These tourism professionals are passionate about helping you experience Ireland in a more authentic and stress-free way.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you got started in the chauffeur and private tour business?

a man with green fields behind him discover the real IrelandMy name is Diarmuid, and I’m the owner of Legenderry Chauffeur Services, based in Derry. I have 19 years of professional driving experience, and my business grew from a passion for providing a first-class personal service and sharing the beauty, history and culture of this wonderful part of Ireland with visitors.

For me, being a chauffeur is about much more than getting people from A to B. It’s about making the journey part of the holiday itself. I enjoy meeting people from all over the world, learning about their interests and helping them discover places and experiences they might otherwise miss.

We specialize in luxury private chauffeur tours and transfers, offering visitors the comfort, flexibility and personal attention that can make a trip to Ireland truly memorable. Whether guests are visiting for the first time, returning to explore further, traveling for golf or arriving for a special occasion, we want them to feel welcome from the moment they step into the vehicle.

The name of your business reflects your deep connection to Derry. Can you tell us more about that?

Absolutely. The name Legenderry is a celebration of Derry and the incredible stories, people and landscapes that make this area so special.

Derry is a city with a remarkable history, a vibrant cultural identity and a reputation for warmth, humour and hospitality. From walking the historic city walls to exploring the Bogside murals and learning about the city’s complex past, there is so much for visitors to discover.

We are also ideally located beside County Donegal, with its spectacular coastline, mountains, beaches and traditional Irish communities, as well as the famous Causeway Coast of Northern Ireland.

I want Legenderry Chauffeur Services to represent the very best of this region: professional service, genuine local knowledge and unforgettable experiences. We are proud to be based in Derry and to introduce visitors to both the famous landmarks and the hidden gems that make this corner of Ireland so legendary.

What are some of your favorite places to bring guests that they might not discover on their own?

We are fortunate to have an extraordinary variety of places within easy reach of Derry. Some of my favorites are the locations where the scenery, history and local stories come together.

In Donegal, I love bringing guests to Sliabh Liag (Slieve League) cliffs, near Glencolmcille. These magnificent sea cliffs rise dramatically above the Atlantic and offer breathtaking views. They are an incredible experience for American visitors who may know the Cliffs of Moher but have never imagined scenery on this scale.

The Inishowen Peninsula is another favorite. Guests can visit Grianán of Aileach, an ancient stone hillfort with panoramic views across the surrounding landscape, before traveling towards Malin Head, Ireland’s most northerly point, where the wild Atlantic coastline is truly spectacular.

I also enjoy taking visitors to Fanad Head Lighthouse, the beautiful beaches around Portsalon and the quieter coastal roads where the landscape seems to change around every bend.

Along the Causeway Coast, the Giant’s Causeway is an essential stop, but there is so much more to explore.

Dunluce Castle, Ballintoy Harbour, Mussenden Temple and Downhill Beach each have their own atmosphere and stories. The dramatic coastline is also familiar to fans of Game of Thrones, which adds another dimension for many of our American guests.

Closer to home, Derry’s historic walls, the Bogside murals and the Peace Bridge offer visitors a fascinating introduction to the city’s history and its journey through change.

What I particularly enjoy is being able to adapt the day. Sometimes the most memorable moments are an unexpected viewpoint, a quiet beach, a conversation with a local or simply stopping to take photographs when the light is perfect.

If a visitor wanted to experience authentic Ireland beyond the well-known attractions, where would you recommend they go?

I would encourage visitors to spend time in Donegal and not simply travel through it on the way to somewhere else.

Donegal offers an authentic experience of Ireland, with its rugged coastline, traditional music, small villages, welcoming communities and strong Irish-language heritage in parts of the county.

The journey through Glencolmcille and towards Sliabh Liag is particularly rewarding. Visitors can experience the landscape of the Wild Atlantic Way, discover the cultural heritage of the area and appreciate how closely local life remains connected to the sea and countryside.

I would also recommend Inishowen, with its historic sites, coastal villages and beautiful beaches, as well as the lesser-known roads around Fanad and the Rosguill Peninsula.

In Derry, I encourage visitors to go beyond the photographs and learn the stories behind the city. A guided walk along the walls, a visit to the Bogside and time spent listening to local perspectives can give people a much deeper understanding of the place.

The advantage of a private chauffeur tour is that we do not have to follow a rigid coach timetable. We can spend longer somewhere that captures a guest’s imagination, explore an alternative route or stop at a place that catches their eye.

For me, authentic Ireland is not just about seeing a landmark. It is about connecting with the landscape, the people and the stories that bring it to life.

How do you create itineraries around visitors’ interests? Do you specialise in particular themes?

Every guest is different, so we begin by finding out what they want from their time in Ireland. Some visitors are passionate about history, others want dramatic scenery and photography, while others are interested in golf, Irish culture, castles or the filming locations they have seen on television.

We create personalised itineraries around those interests, taking account of travel dates, available time, walking preferences, group size and the places guests most want to see.

Our specialist experiences include:

History and Heritage: Derry’s historic walls, the Bogside murals, Grianán of Aileach, ancient sites, castles and the fascinating history of the border region.

Scenic and Coastal Tours: Sliabh Liag, the Wild Atlantic Way, Malin Head, Fanad Head Lighthouse, the Giant’s Causeway and the Antrim Coast.

Culture and Local Experiences: Traditional Irish communities, local stories, heritage sites and opportunities to experience the character of Derry and Donegal.

Game of Thrones Tours: Ballintoy Harbour, the Causeway Coast and other recognised filming locations, combined with the scenery and history of Northern Ireland.

Luxury Golf Travel: Private transfers and tailored itineraries for golfers visiting Royal Portrush, Portstewart, Ballyliffin, Rosapenna and other leading courses across Northern Ireland and Donegal.

Photography and Nature: Coastal viewpoints, dramatic cliffs, lighthouses, beaches and scenic stops where guests can take their time and enjoy the surroundings.

We also provide airport transfers, wedding chauffeur services, corporate travel, cruise excursions and multi-day journeys.

Our aim is to make each itinerary personal rather than simply taking guests from one famous attraction to the next. With a private driver-guide, the experience can be shaped around the people traveling, not the other way around.

What advice would you give first-time visitors deciding how many days to spend in Derry and Donegal?

My advice is to allow at least two or three days if you can, particularly if you want to experience both Derry and Donegal without feeling rushed. Four or five days would allow an even more relaxed exploration of the wider region.

Think carefully about distances! Ireland may look small on a map, but winding coastal roads, photo stops and places worth exploring mean that journeys can take longer than expected.

The biggest mistake is trying to fit too much into a single day. A private tour gives visitors the freedom to enjoy the scenery, ask questions and make spontaneous stops without worrying about driving, parking or navigating unfamiliar roads.

Derry makes an excellent base for exploring this part of Ireland, especially for visitors arriving through City of Derry Airport or travelling onwards from Belfast or Dublin.

Could you tell us about the tours and transport services you offer, the areas you cover and the group sizes you can accommodate?

At Legenderry Chauffeur Services, we provide luxury private chauffeur tours and executive transport throughout Derry, Donegal, Northern Ireland and the wider island of Ireland.

Our services include:

Private sightseeing tours of Derry and the surrounding area; Giant’s Causeway and Causeway Coast excursions; Donegal highlights and Wild Atlantic Way tours; Sliabh Liag and Glencolmcille scenic tours; Inishowen Peninsula, Malin Head and Fanad Head excursions; golf transfers and multi-day golf itineraries; City of Derry, Belfast International, Belfast City and Dublin Airport transfers; cruise-ship shore excursions, hotel transfers and private journeys; wedding, corporate and special-event chauffeur services, as well as tailor-made, multi-day tours across Ireland.

Our fleet includes luxury vehicles such as the Mercedes-Benz V-Class executive people carrier and the Audi A8 and Mercedes-Benz S-Class saloons, subject to availability.

The Mercedes V-Class accommodates up to seven passengers, making it ideal for families, couples travelling together, small groups of friends and golf parties with luggage. Our executive saloons are suited to smaller groups seeking an elegant and comfortable journey.

Every journey is designed around comfort, reliability and personal service, with a professional, fully licensed and insured driver, a smart and welcoming presentation, and complimentary refreshments. Airport transfers can include meet-and-greet arrangements and flight monitoring.

We believe small-group private travel offers a wonderful alternative to large coach tours. Guests have more flexibility, personal attention and the opportunity to explore at their own pace.

If you could encourage every visitor to experience just one thing in your part of Ireland, what would it be?

If I had to choose one experience, I would encourage visitors to spend a day exploring the spectacular coastline of Donegal, particularly Sliabh Liag near Glencolmcille.

Standing above the Atlantic, looking out across the immense cliffs and the open ocean, gives you a real sense of the wild beauty of Ireland. It is a place that stays with people long after they have returned home.

But I would also say that no visit to this part of Ireland is complete without spending time in Derry.

Walk the historic walls, hear the stories, meet the people and experience the warmth of the city for yourself.

That combination of dramatic scenery, fascinating history and genuine hospitality is what makes this region so special.

At Legenderry Chauffeur Services, our promise is simple: Be Driven, Arrive in Style. We want every guest to leave with wonderful photographs, a deeper appreciation of Ireland and memories that will bring them back again.

Whether you are visiting from the United States, travelling with family or friends, planning a golf holiday or looking for a private tour away from the crowds, we would be delighted to help you discover the real Ireland.
